BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The Mississippi Surge hockey team is no more. After five years on the Gulf Coast, the team "indefinitely suspend hockey operations" Friday.
Local owner Jimmy Hodge said the decision wasn't an easy one, and only came after weeks of searching for other options.
"We have done everything we can to keep hockey here," Hodge said.
Surge Owner Tim Kerr said the decision to suspend operations could be reversed one day, but a steep decline in revenue forced their hand right now.
"We are still seeking opportunities for the following year, and if the right situation arises, hockey could return to Biloxi," Kerr said. "Biloxi is a great place with great hockey fans."
The Surge Front Office sent a message to fans thanking all those who supported the team this season.
