JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

On Friday, Spann Elementary School students had the chance to meet New Orleans Saints running back Pierre Thomas.

Students learned about the importance of staying active and making healthy choices. Thomas, founder for the iCan Foundation which promotes children's wellness, spoke to them about simple healthy choices they can make now that will make a positive impact on their health later in life.

Thomas' appearance at Spann Elementary is in conjunction with his visit to the Mississippi Children's Museum which will be on Saturday, May 3 for Who Dat Day: Spring Training with Pierre Thomas and the New Orleans Saints. The event is from 11 am - 4 pm.

Two hundred students from Spann Elementary will receive a ticket to Who Dat Day for themselves and a parent.

School leaders say that they will distribute tickets to students who have achieved good behavior and academic success over the past several weeks.

"We hope to inspire children and parents to make healthy choices together," said Susan Garrard, MCM President/CEO. "Health is one of our major initiatives at the museum. We have a 5,000 square ft. health gallery and the museum offers programs that teach children about making healthy food choices and living a healthy life. Who Dat Day is a fun way for us to celebrate children's health and wellness at the museum."

According to MCM, during Who Dat Day children will get to participate in fun, healthy activities throughout the museum and have a chance to meet and interact with Pierre Thomas.

The iconic Lombardi Trophy from the Saints 2010 Super Bowl win will also be at the museum that day for photo opportunities, along with an appearance by a Saints mascot.

MCM says that the first 200 people that participate in the Saints Experience will also receive a ticket to the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum.

Thomas founded the iCan Foundation in response to the ongoing issue of childhood obesity.

Who Dat Day is sponsored by BankPlus, the iCan Foundation, Outlets of Mississippi, Fox 40 and WLBT.
