KEMPER COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - The Kemper County lignite plant won't go on line until sometime in the first half of 2015. That's according to the latest filing by the Southern Company with the Securities and Exchange Commission. When this year started, the target start up date was in the last three months of 2014.
The total cost of the plant now exceeds $5.5 billion. That's nearly twice the original $2.88 billion cost estimate.
The Southern Company cites adverse weather, unexpected labor turnover and installation inefficiencies for bumping the plant price tag so high.
