BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

About 50 firefighters and first responders from South Mississippi are helping out in Louisville, Mississippi, which received extensive tornado damage.

Biloxi Fire Chief Joe Boney told WLOX News the team from our area left from Wiggins around 9pm Monday night and arrived in Winston County about 1am. Chief Boney said Biloxi sent six emergency workers. Other team members came from Gulfport, Pascagoula, Long Beach and other cities from South Mississippi.

Chief Boney says his crew was assisting Tuesday morning in the search for a family of three missing in Louisville.

The chief says it's a great thing to be able to offer emergency assistance to other areas of the state in a time of need. No one understands that more than the folks of South Mississippi who received such a generous outpouring of help after Hurricane Katrina struck.
