Cops on Doughnut Shops blows away fund raising goal

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

If you drove by the Krispy Kreme in Gulfport on Saturday, you may have noticed police cars filling the parking lot and maybe even a few cops on the roof.

Don't worry. The doughnut shop was not in trouble.

Krispy Kreme and local law enforcement agencies teamed up for the Cops on Doughnut Shops initiative. This is the first year for the Coast to participate in the nationwide event, which is celebrating its 14th year.

It was all an effort to raise money for the Torch Run, which will lead up to the Special Olympics in May at Keesler Air Force Base.

The goal was to raise $750, but organizers said they ended up raising around $1,500.

When the WLOX First Alert Weather Team issues an Alert Day for South Mississippi, it is because we believe the  weather will impact your day. The current Alert Day is because of the high rainfall totals we have seen with the potential for more rain. In fact, a Flash Flood Watch is in effect through Tuesday evening.
