Officials: Accident disables Blackhawk helicopter in Gulfport

Posted: Updated:

We are learning details today about a military mishap at Gulfport's Air National Guard base.  WLOX News has been told a Blackhawk helicopter is out of service because its rotor blade hit a pole Friday afternoon.

There is military training taking place at the base, but authorities have not said if the Blackhawk mishap was related to that training.

We have confirmed nobody was injured when the helicopter became disabled.

An investigation has been launched by the National Guard to determine how the blade clipped the pole.  We have also been told the disabled Blackhawk will be repaired at the AVCRAD facility at the north end of the Gulfport base.
