PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) -

A local school is being honored in a big way for brining top notch education to Mississippi children. Pass Christian High School was recently rated as the top high school in the state by the U.S. News and World report of America's Best High Schools for 2014.

The school was given a silver medal award. The medals are awarded based on the school's performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college.

The school received an 18.4 out of 20 college readiness score, and was also recognized for having one of the lowest student to teacher ratios.

Several other South Mississippi high schools earned a bronze medal. Those include Bay High, Gautier High, Hancock high, Harrison Central High, West Harrison High, Greene County High and Poplarville Senior High School.

WLOX News would like to extend a big congratulations to these schools.
