Mississippi officials take Amber Alert fugitives back from Sylvester

SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) -

Mississippi authorities took back the two suspects connected to an Amber Alert sent earlier this week.

Police captured 34-year-old Donald Boyd Harris and 31-year-old Allison Studdard early Thursday. Officials said they fled to Georgia with a 2-year-old child after their 7-month-old infant became unresponsive and died.

Officials with the Lowndes County, MS Sheriff's Office showed up around 2 p.m. Friday to take the couple back where they are facing methamphetamine charges.

Officers want to question them about how their 7 month old child died, and the two didn't say much Friday.

Studdard didn't say a word as she was put into a law enforcement vehicle. It was Harris who got emotional as reporters asked questions.

"We loved that little girl. We lost her," said Harris.

The manhunt began and ended Wednesday when Sylvester Police recognized the couple's car and pulled them over.

Their other 2 year-old daughter was found in the backseat; safe, but scared.

"Our initial observations of the child was no physical injuries that we could observe," said Sylvester Police officer Paul Klein. "But we just wanted to make sure so we did call EMS to have the child looked at."

The Pontiac Aztec they were driving was also taken back to Mississippi, which is where the couple will be questioned about what happened to their child and how she died.

Investigators believe the two were headed to Lenox, Georgia where they have family.

Just before they left Harris was heard saying one more thing: "Why are they doing us like this?"
