Clarkton man receives life in prison for 2012 murder

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A Clarkton man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after being found guilty of first degree murder.

A Bladen County jury found Jessie Earl Simpson guilty of first degree murder in the 2012 shooting death of Charles Bernard Stephens.

Simpson was sentenced to life without parole.

The shooting occurred on August 13, 2012 at 336 E. Railroad Street in Clarkton. According to officials, Simpson shot Stephens in the face after the two got into a heated argument.

Stephens was rushed to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he died two days later.

So, the political stumping is not nearly as significant as it can be. Yet, this Wednesday and Thursday, people will gather under the pavilion at Founders Square and listen to a series of speeches from Mississippi’s elected leaders.

These bags contain new and gender-neutral fleece blankets, stuffed animals, hygiene kits and activity books. To fill the next 100 bags, organizers need help. They need people to donate blankets and hygiene kits.
