Some damage reported as Friday storms move through area

Posted: Updated:
CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

WBTV Meteorologist Al Conklin says a frontal boundary crossing the region Friday triggered scattered showers and storms.

The severe weather was not widespread, but some storms contained gusty winds and small hail.

A Tornado Watch was in effect for Anson, Richmond and Stanly counties, and expired at 9 p.m.

A Tornado Warning was issued for Rowan and Iredell Counties, and expired at 4 p.m.

During that time damage was reported, centered around the Statesville area. Some buildings had roof damage, and trees were knocked down in several places.

At one home, a barn was completely demolished.

Officials said they did not receive reports of any injuries.

The rain quickly cleared out Friday evening, and the weekend looks great. A perfect weather pattern is shaping up with lots of sunshine, highs in the low 80s and low humidity.

Beyond the weekend, Conklin says another front arrives Tuesday of next week and looks to linger, setting the stage for several rounds of showers and possible storms through Thursday.
