SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) - A group of Brunswick County citizens have organized a "2014 Walk for Puppy Mill Legislation" on Saturday, April 26 at 9 a.m.

The walk begins at Four Legs Good Pet Boutique in Southport on North Howe Street.

Citizens will be raising awareness regarding the plight of thousands of puppy mill dogs in North Carolina.

There is no current legislation in NC which protects them. House bill 930, which would create a standard of care for dog breeders, mainly commercial breeders, passed the house, but stalled in the senate in the 2013 fall session.

Walkers are encouraged to bring their own dogs.
