Investigation for suspect in Ascension Parish double murder continues

ASCENSION PARISH, LA (WAFB) -

Michael Davis worked on his lawn Thursday afternoon. Davis says it's the most time he's spent outside in a week.

"You know we've just been staying inside for the most part," said Davis.

Davis and his family live on Lakeway Cove Avenue in Gonzales, right next door to the house where police say Ronald Green Sr. shot and killed his wife Dewona and their 12 year old son Ron Jr. The house has now become a shrine to a mother and son.

"It's tough to come out every day and see all the candles, teddy bears and toys in driveway. It makes you think about what happened. It's a constant reminder for me," added Davis.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office reported Ronald Green Sr., 44, called an unidentified woman around 2 a.m. on April 17 and told her that he killed his wife and son and planned to jump off a bridge over the Mississippi River.

When deputies got to the home of Green's wife and son, they found the front door glass shattered and the two victims dead in a bedroom.

Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Tony Bacala says his investigators are still searching for Green's body near Veterans Memorial Bridge on the Mississippi River.  Authorities say that's where they found Green's vehicle after the murders.

"St. John is looking every day and we're participating in searches once or twice a week and next week we'll probably have helicopters up with help from Livingston Parish, so we're full speed ahead," said Bacala.

Bacala adds he's conducted searches for bodies that have lasted well over three months due to the massive amount of water and river conditions but insists it's not investigators' only focus.

"Certainly we're not tunnel vision on the fact that he absolutely jumped in the river. We believe that happened but we are investigating all avenues including the possibility he's still at large," said Bacala.

Davis admits the idea Green may have faked his own death is one he and other neighbors have considered but whatever the answer, Davis says he just hopes it comes sooner than later.

"It's hard not to think if he's alive or not. We all talk about it on a daily basis. I would love for the family to get closure so they can move on," said Davis.

Friends and family members will honor and remember Dewona Green and Ron Green Jr. May 3 with funeral services at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church on Scenic Highway.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to assist the family in paying for the funerals of Dewona and Ron Jr. Click http://www.gofundme.com/8jfyk4.

Now that fall is officially upon us, it would be nice if Mother Nature would start acting like it. Unfortunately, the summer-like heat will last for most of this week. But, there are changes on the way.
