DEQUEEN, AR (KSLA) -

Two Sevier County men have been arrested in connection with the alleged abuse of an elderly man.

John Halper, 24 of DeQueen and Trenton Ham, 24 of Wickes are being held at the Sevier County Jail on charges of abuse of an endangered or impaired person. That is a class D felony.

DeQueen Police Chief Richard McKinley said the two were employed with Brookewood Nursing Center in DeQueen. On Tuesday, the police were contacted by a family member of a resident at the facility concerned about possible abuse.

An investigation revealed enough evidence to make the arrests.

"We don't believe there is any other suspects at this time and we are still going to investigate to make sure and so far the Brookewood Nursing Home is cooperating with our case, our investigation," McKinley said. "And we have no reason to believe there are any other victims at this time."

Harper and Ham made a court appearance Thursday and bond was set at $10,000 each. Brookewood declined to comment on the matter.
