An American winning the Boston Marathon, the rising death toll from the capsized South Korean ferry and General Motors' slim profit margin all made headlines this week. (RNN) - Monday was the Boston Marathon, and thousands came out to run and watch the race a year after the 2013 marathon bombings.

Meb Keflezighi became the first American man to win the Boston Marathon since 1983.

Rescuers continued to recover the bodies of victims from the sunken ferry off the coast of South Korea. More than 180 passengers have died after the ferry capsized last week. Several crew members were arrested for abandoning the passengers.

General Motors' recall crisis has taken a big chunk out of its first quarter profit. The automaker said the recalls have cost the company $1.3 billion, leaving them with only a $108 million profit for the quarter.

    A large home being renovated in west Gulfport caught fire early Thursday morning. Battalion Chief Chris Henderson with the Gulfport Fire Department says crews were called to the two-story home on Hardy Avenue around 1 a.m. after a neighbor awoke to popping noises and the smell of smoke. Henderson believes renovations to the 4,000 square foot home were almost complete. Fortunately, it took crews only 40 minutes to contain the fire and the home is still salvageable.
