MADISON COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

On Wednesday afternoon a one vehicle accident took the life of a former member of the Mississippi Army National Guard.

Forty-three-year-old William Blackstock of Pickens, was killed in a car crash on Wednesday at 3:14 pm.

Sources tell us that Blackstock, known by his friends as Chad, was a former Hinds County Deputy and he was also a former member of the Mississippi Army National Guard Field Artillery Unit based in Kosciusko.

He also served a tour in Afghanistan.

The car crash happened on Highway 43 in Madison County. We are told the location is just 2 miles north of Hwy 17.

According to Mississippi Highway Patrol, he was driving a 2007 gray Toyota Camry northbound on Hwy 43 and entered a sharp curve. The vehicle then left the roadway to the right and overcorrected back across the other side of the road.

We are told that the vehicle then left the roadway again, overturned and struck a tree.

MHP says that Blackstock was killed on scene and was not wearing a seatbelt. We are also told that speed may have played a factor.

At this time, we are told that the accident is still under investigation.
