Gamecocks infielder may be out for season

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

University of South Carolina second baseman Max Schrock may be out for the rest of the season.

The Big Spur reports Gamecocks Coach Chad Holbrook told the media after the 8-0 win over Davidson Tuesday night he doesn't think Schrock will return to the diamond this season.

"I'm not optimistic about him being able to return anytime soon," Holbrook said. "He may be out for the rest of the year. He may not be. But the injury that he has with his back, it might need more time to heal than our season's got left. It may need a couple months. Who knows? I hope like heck next week he comes in and says he feels great. Good. In my mind, and our thought process, we're going to have to go ahead without Max."

The sophomore was batting .239 in 25 games this season with the Gamecocks. He had 20 runs and 21 hits in 88 at-bats with 5 home runs and 13 RBI. Schrock had an on-base percentage of .327. Defensively, he had a fielding percentage of .965 with two errors.
