NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A driver says taking his seat belt off probably saved his life after a crash that happened near Tennessee State University overnight.

The man says he was pulling out onto Ed Temple Boulevard at Dr. Walter S. Davis Boulevard when he got hit on the driver's side.

The driver says he saw the car coming, took off his seat belt and jumped onto his passenger's lap to avoid being crushed.

He was able to walk away from the wreck uninjured.

His passenger had minor injuries, and the driver of the other car was unconscious when first responders got to the scene.
