St. Patrick Lady Irish taking aim on a possible three-peat in softball

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

St. Patrick head coach Tommy Castenado has guided the Lady Irish to a perfect 8 and 0 record in the Region 8-3A standings.

MaxPreps has St. Patrick ranked seventh in the state softball poll.

Castenado said,"Last year we hit 31 home runs, this year we have only hit six but our kids are hitting doubles and triples. We just hit the ball."

Sabrina Turner has been solid on the mound, tossing 13 wins in 15 games and carries a 1.07 earned run average with 101 strikeouts.

Teams are batting only .161 against the junior standout.

"For me my best pitch would be my off speed stuff and I've worked hard to develop everything else,"stated Turner. "It really doesn't matter because I can rely on a great defense. I have a good team behind me and I get the job done."

Turner also carries a big stick at the plate, batting .405 with 18 RBIs, 10 doubles, 2 triples and 2 home runs.

Sophomore Elizabeth Zorich is batting .420 with 14 runs batted in.

8th graders Raven Blackwell and Emma Rae Castanado are batting .328 and .353 respectively. Castenado has 19 RBI's and 8 doubles.or above.

Junior Victoria Tyler carries a .373 batting average with 14 RBI's. She says this team has the talent to repeat.

Tyler said,"Although we're job we still have the capability to get it done. We have learned from our mistakes and worked on them so we're ready.

With Sabrina Turner pitching, the Lady Irish have a good shot at winning three straight state titles. Over two years, she has 34 victories and only 3 losses.
