Miss Amazing Pageant gives confidence to girls with disabilities

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

It was an amazing weekend for a group of girls competing in a special pageant.

The Mississippi Miss Amazing Pageant was held Saturday night at the Jackson Convention Complex. Seventeen contestants from across the state participated in the event that showcases the talents of young women with disabilities.

This is the second year the competition has been held.

Organizers says the program gives the young ladies with disabilities the same opportunities to dress up and showcase their abilities on stage.

"I was born with one arm and was actually in pageants before, not the Miss Amazing Pageant, but just regular pageants and that made my self confidence so much better," said pageant state director, Savannah Holsomback. "I really wanted to bring a safe environment for these girls to maybe experience the same things I did."

Saturday night's winner will now go on to represent the state at the national competition in Omaha, Nebraska this August.
