Soria City egg hunt brings community together

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Around 100 children took part in the sixth annual Easter Egg hunt over in Gulfport's Soria City Community Saturday afternoon. The event was held at the Willie Lock Community Center and playground and included 1,300 eggs, face painting, bouncy houses and plenty of food.

Organizer Nayboler Smith has been the hosting the event each year and says several volunteers and sponsors helped make the event possible.

"I had 1,300 eggs, but my goal was 1,000. So we had prizes for them. We got all kinds of things that's going on for them. We got baskets that they can win. We have tickets that they are holding on to," Smith said. "So its not just something the kids enjoy, the parents enjoy it, too. Most of all, I enjoy it."

The park is typically closed on Saturdays, Smith said the Gulfport School District opened it just for this event.
