Two motorcycle riders injured in I-220 crash

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

According to our newscrew on the scene two motorcycle riders have been injured in an accident on I-220.

The accident happened sometime around 8:30 p.m. Saturday night on I-220 near Watkins Drive.

A group of about 20 motorcyclists were riding together in the southbound lanes.

When we arrived on the scene, the victims were being treated by Jackson firefighters and other motorists.

AMR paramedics were on scene.

One of the victims has been airlifted and the other was transported by AMR.

Both victims appeared to be conscious at the scene.

It is unclear how the accident occurred.

At one point an MDOT traffic alert reported all lanes north and southbound were blocked.

An update from MDOT a little after 9 p.m. said the southbound right shoulder of the interstate was the affected lane, due to the accident.

It's called white spot syndrome virus and it was first discovered in Thailand, but somehow it made its way to ponds in South Louisiana and specialists are struggling to find the funds to research a solution.  “The catch was increasing and increasing and then it dropped 70% and that's when you saw the dead crawfish floating in the water,” said a crawfish farmer of 34 years, Ian Garbarino.
