Color Dash raises money for Humane Society

Posted: Updated:
HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Hundreds of South Mississippians participated in a very colorful run for a good cause Saturday. The Humane Society of South Mississippi held its 5K Color Dash at the Village at Tradition.

There were no time clocks or competitions. Just folks walking and running while having non-toxic, food-grade, colored corn-starch thrown on them as they completed each lap.

The fundraiser was held to assist the Humane Society care for 10,000 homeless animals until they find a permanent home. Organizers say every dollar helps.

"It is events like this that help us sustain our programs, our adoptions, our low cost spay and neuter, our low cost pet identification, and reuniting lost pets with their owners. So these are really core events to continue that and it is a great time," said Krystyna Schmitt with the Humane Society.

Folks who participated were also able to adopt a pet after the fun run.
