Black defeats Gold 45-25 at USM spring game

Southern Miss Athletics Press Release

HATTIESBURG, MS – The Black squad accumulated 369 yards of offense on its way to a 45-25 victory over the Golden team in Southern Miss' annual Black and Gold game, Saturday afternoon at M.M. Roberts Stadium.

"I really thought, throughout the spring, that we improved on the things that mattered; attitude, energy and body language," said Southern Miss head coach Todd Monken. "I thought our guys were flying around. There was more energy. It was productive for what we were trying to get accomplished. We're still a ways away, but today was another day for our guys to get out in The Rock and compete."

Jalen Richard led all rushers with 12 attempts for 139 yards and a touchdown. He also added three receptions for 33 yards and a score. George Payne led the Gold Team with 12 rushes for 49 yards.

Nick Mullens connected on 12-of-19 for 133 yards and a touchdown. Matt Bergeron, in his only series of the day, was 6-of-6 for 52 yards and a score.

Cole Weeks and Parker Adamson split time at quarterback for the Gold squad. They each connected on 13-of-25, with Weeks throwing for a game-high 206 yards and two touchdowns and Adamson adding 83 yards and a touchdown.

Marquise Ricard led the Black squad with five receptions for 74 yards and touchdown. Chad Cook added four catches for 39 yards.

Jarell Aaron led all Gold receivers with seven catches for 80 yards and a touchdown. Demarius Howard had four receptions for 76 yards and a touchdown and D. J. Thompson added 75 yards on five catches. Cooper Harrington added a touchdown reception.
