HOHENWALD, TN (WSMV) -

The top highway official in Lewis County submitted a letter of resignation on Wednesday to county officials.

Lewis County Mayor Van Ward said he received the letter from Highway Commissioner Randall Stewart.

Ward said Stewart said in the letter the he was stepping down for his own reasons and thanked everyone for their support.

The Lewis County Commission will decide Monday night at its regular meeting whether to accept the resignation.

Stewart won the seat in the August 2012 election. The office oversees roadways in the county that are not state highways.
