WLOX Editorial: Education worth $50 tax increase

If you ask almost anyone if they would like to pay more taxes, the answer would be "no." Gulfport voters are being asked to raise their own property taxes by about $50 per year. They will vote May 27th on a $41 million school bond question.

In this case, we think the tax increase question should be answered with a "yes." The Gulfport school system needs to replace the 50 year old high school. They need to add classrooms at Bayou View Elementary, Bayou View Middle, Anniston Elementary and Pass Road Elementary. They are busting at the seams.

I don't like paying taxes any more than the next guy. But the education and future of our students is worth our tax dollar investment.

That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to editorials@wlox.com.
