BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Number 13 Ole Miss posted a 4-1 record last week including a series win over Mississippi State to improve to 29- on the season and 9 and 6 in Southeastern Conference play.

It was the second consecutive series win over Mississippi State and the first series loss for the Bulldogs at home this season since falling to LSU in the opening weekend of SEC play.

It was the eighth series win over Mississippi State for Rebels head coach Mike Bianco and the fifth in seven series against the Bulldogs in Starkville since the 2004 season.

Ole Miss entertains number 8 LSU for a three game series beginning Thursday night at 6:30 and the game will be televised by ESPNU.  Friday's Tigers-Rebels clash is set for 6:30 p.m. and Saturday's game will start at 1:00 p.m. and will be televised by Fox Sports.

24th ranked Mississippi State will try bouncing back under the win column 6:30 Tuesday night hosting Alcorn State.

The Bulldogs (22-15, 7-8 SEC) are 12-0 all-time against the Braves (6-32, 6-11 SWAC) and Brett Pirtle will try reaching base safely in a season long 19 games and he has hit safely in six consecutive games.  In his last 10 games, Pirtle is hitting .412 with four RBIs and four walks.

Senior outfielder Derrick Armstrong is hitting .486 in his last 10 games and is riding a streak of five-straight multi-hit games becoming the first Bulldog since Adam Frazier to accomplish the feat. Frazier had six consecutive multi-hit games from May 17-24, 2013.

Southern Miss (21-16) travels to Metairie, Louisiana for a 7:00 p.m. Tuesday clash with highly ranked LSU at Zephyr Field in the annual Wally Pontiff, Jr. Foundation Classic.  Pontiff was a former LSU baseball player who died in his sleep.  Proceeds from the event will be donated to local charities.

LSU (27-9-1) holds a 37-11 advantage in the series that dates back to the 1928 season.  The Tigers have won the last six head-to-head games.

Southern Miss is projected to start sophomore right-handed pitcher Cody Carroll on the mound Tuesday facing Tigers freshman right-hander Alden Cartwright.

Carroll is 2-0 with a 2.88 ERA while Cartwright is 1-0 with a 1.23 ERA in 12 relief appearances.

After the LSU game, the Golden Eagles take a swing at Louisiana Tech for a three game weekend series beginning 6:00 p.m. Friday.
