PICAYUNE, MS (WLOX) -

A former Picayune Public Works Department employee was indicted on one felony count of false statements and representations and one felony count of false pretense last Thursday and was booked into the Pearl River County Jail on Monday.

State Auditor Stacey Pickering said Gregory Kerr, 48, was arrested by special agents from his office after an investigation found that Kerr had falsified his time records to receive payment for work he did not provide to the city.

"Mr. Kerr claimed hours that he did not work and attempted to steal from the taxpayers of Picayune," said Pickering. "My office will continue to hold those that attempt to abuse the system accountable."

Pickering said the false records span from April 2012 to Kerr's termination from the city on July 2, 2012.
