WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority has rescheduled a planned service outage and precautionary boil water advisory for a portion of downtown Wilmington to Tuesday, April 22.

The CFPUA will be replacing three valves, requiring a water service outage between 9:00 a.m. to approximately 4:00 p.m. Tuesday.

The precautionary boil water advisory affects resident and business at the following addresses:

  • 400 though 722 Red Cross St.
  • 400 and 500 blocks of North 5th and North 6th Streets
  • Peabody Alley and 502 North 4th Street

The intersection of North 5th and Red Cross Streets will be closed during the work and a detour will be established in the area.

The work was originally scheduled for Tuesday, April 15 but was postponed due to poor weather conditions.

The precautionary boil water advisory will be issued with the outage because periods of low or no pressure increase the potential for the introduction of bacteria into the water system. CFPUA customers in the above described area will be asked to boil their water for one minute then allow it to cool prior to consumption or utilize another water source such as bottled water. Consumption includes drinking, brushing teeth, making ice, food preparation, fruit and vegetable washing and the preparation of baby formula. Customers do NOT need to boil water prior to using it for showering or bathing.
