Six Flags New England opens for the season

AGAWAM, MA (WSHM) -

Its a sign of Spring in Western Massachusetts as Six Flags New England officially opened for the year on Saturday.

While the park held its grand opening and will be open on Sunday, it will gear up for full hours the week of school Spring Break.

This year the park is boasting many new features, including a new ride, the Sky Screamer, which will open in May.

There is also a new way to buy tickets, a new dining pass and new dining areas.

Park officials told CBS 3 that if you have not been to the park in a couple of years, you will be surprised.

"If a guest has not been here in several years, it's quite amazing," said Jennifer McGrath, communications manager for Six Flags New England. "This season, we will be opening in late May the New England Sky Screamer. Last year, we introduced Banzai Pipelines and had a four-acre expansion. For this season, we actually have new food venues that we have going on that's very exciting."

A portion of every ticket sold on Saturday was donated to the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society.

Guests were encouraged to bring items, such as dog and cat food, to be donated.

Those who donated three of more items to Dakin received a ticket at a discounted rate of $20.14.
