Westminster Academy to close at end of school year

Posted: Updated:
GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

A Gulfport school will be closing its doors for good at the end of this school year. Westminster Academy Principal Dr. Kathy Sellers announced Thursday that her school will close at the end of the 2013-2014 school year after more than 40 years of educating children.

"For over 40 years, our beloved academy has enjoyed the privilege of educating thousands of children from across the Mississippi Gulf Coast," Sellers said in a news release. "Westminster Academy alumni have gone on to become leaders in our community and around the globe."

Sellers announced that a new school, Hope Academy, will take over the Westminster building for the 2014-2015 school year until its new facility in Florence Gardens is complete.

"While the doors of Westminster Academy are closing, we celebrate the legacy of excellence that will forever be seen in the ongoing successes of its graduates," said President of the Westminster Academy Board of Directors, Andrew Burrell.
