Sheriff: Teen charged with bringing gun to Vancleave High School

Posted: Updated:

A 15-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday after authorities say he brought a gun to Vancleave High School.

Officials with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department say the student showed off the Colt 45 automatic pistol to his classmates, then called his mother to check him out of school. That's when the teen's classmates told school officials about the weapon.

The student was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon by a student.

The gun was recovered by officials. The student is set to appear in Jackson County Youth Court later today.

This news comes just one day after we told you about Jackson County Sheriff Charles Britt announcing that three Jackson County school resources officers will become county employees. That means the Sheriff's office will provide training, vehicles and equipment for the resource officers. The school district will pay the salaries.
