National Civil Rights Museum reopens on 46th anniversary of MLK’s assassination

MEMPHIS, TN (WTVM) -

April 4 marks the 46th anniversary of the assassination of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr, and the city of Memphis is pulling out all of the stops to remember the Civil Rights icon.

The National Civil Rights Museum, which is also the site of king's assassination, has just undergone an 18 month renovation costing $27.5 million. This weekend is the grand reopening of the museum.

Later tonight there will be a candlelight vigil commemorating the anniversary.

There will be a grand reopening ceremony Saturday April 5 finally allowing the public to talk a walk through this country's Civil Rights era.
