PANOLA COUNTY, MS -

(WMC) - The storm that ripped through Panola County early Friday morning damaged several buildings, including a church. Now, the congregation is trying to pick up the pieces.

There is a gaping hole in Pastor Tami Herron's sanctuary and a pine cone on a pew next to a bible.

"We can't let this stop us," said Herron.

Even with all of the damage, church will still go on Sunday.

"We still have a reason to give God the praise. No one was in here, no one was hurt," said Herron.

Tree limbs lie on the roof while insulation hangs from the ceiling; it is a mess that will cost thousands of dollars to repair. Wind gusts slammed all parts of the county, including Como where downed trees knocked out power to some schools.

"We felt like if we could get the day started then it was better than trying to make up another day," said Bob King, Conservator of North Panola School District.

North Panola Students are already making up classes because of snow. So with generator power and back up lights - school went on as scheduled Friday to avoid more make up days. The lights finally came back on around lunch.

Back at the church, Herron says she feels blessed the damage was not worse. She is hoping to clean up before one of her busiest services.

"Easter is the third Sunday so that's a short time frame to get that done, but we do believe in miracles."
