PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) - State health officials are saying one stretch of beach in Pass Christian is not safe and to stay away. The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality issued a beach closure Wednesday for the stretch of beach spanning from Fort Henry to Elliot Avenue.
Officials said this part of the beach has been under advisory since March 15 through the Beach Monitoring Program. The closure comes after unusually high amounts of bacteria were found in the near-shore waters. Officials said the recent heavy rains and area flooding are contributing to the influx of bacteria.
MDEQ says residents should not enter the water or consume any seafood from this area until further notice. MDEQ will monitor bacteria levels and advise the public when the waters are safe again.
