New league offers kickball for grownups

GAUTIER, MS (WLOX) -

A sport many of us played as kids is making a comeback, thanks to a group of women in Jackson County. The Jackson County Civic Action Committee (JCCAC) has started a kickball league, and it already has three teams: the Westside Warriors, the Moss Point Ballers, and the Diamond Divas.

Hannah Donegan helped organize the league with coworkers and friends. She hopes to see even more teams playing in the near future.

"We've talked to other agencies and they're interested in playing against us next year, so that's something we're real excited about," said Donegan. "We hope the other agencies see how successful we've been with it and see how easy it is to set up."

Donegan said she started the league as a part of a health initiative.

"It's all just to get them out, get them moving, and get them playing."

JCCAC "kicked-off" its inaugural season at Bacot Park in Gautier Monday afternoon. The first game was between the Moss Point Ballers and the Westside Warriors. Donegan said she couldn't be happier with the response.

"They're loving it, so far. There has been about three weeks of smack talk leading up until today. And they have been pumped for this; they are excited."

The season will wrap up on May 10th at the JCCAC Kickball Championship Tournament. Donegan said the public is invited to attend that event at Bacot Park in Gautier from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
