BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) - St. Stanislaus head coach Mark Logan led the Rockachaws to the Class 4A South State finals last season but got beat.
That setback is something St. Stanislaus players think about everyday at practice or on game day.
Logan said,"Remember that feeling walking off the field after losing in South State, exactly that, use that as motivation."
15-year-old Greer Holston has become a dominating pitcher despite his 2 wins and 2 losses and 3.04 earned run average.
The sophomore is getting in a groove on the mound having tossed 32 strikeouts in 22 innings pitched.
It helps that he's consistently throws a fast ball clocked in the high 80's to low 90's.
"As a freshman I threw 86 mph and with a lot of hard work during the off-season I got my fastball up to 93 mph at St. Patrick, so right now I'm in the high 80's and low 90's,"stated Holston.
Holston also carries a .344 batting average with a home run and 7 RBI's.
Senior first baseman Destin Aime is batting .361 with one home run and 11 runs batted in. He's 3 and 1 on the mound with a 0.81 ERA with 19 strikeouts, helping the Rockachaws ring up a 4 and 0 record in the Region 8-4A ranks.
Aime said,"A lot or our core guys are back. We only lost one guy and the senior that we replaced is pretty good." He added,"Coming back hungry this year is definitely a factor."
Junior Joe Guillot leads the Rockachaws with a .394 batting average while junior shortstop Jonathan Artigues has 13 RBI's.
Senior pitcher Irby Dossett has the Rockachaws best earned run average at 0.62 and 15 strikeouts.
