LUCEDALE, MS (WLOX) - Two men, who said they were heading to Mobile to apply to work at Toys R Us, were arrested in a drug bust in Lucedale Monday.
Investigator Robert Riendeau with the Lucedale Police Department said officers pulled over Kevin Bruce Merenda, 42, for a traffic violation on Highway 98. The passenger, Christopher Dillon Chinn 21, claimed to be Merenda's son.
Officers said they could smell a strong odor coming from the vehicle that smelled like unburned marijuana. After getting permission to search the vehicle, officers discovered 17.2 pounds of pot.
Riendeau said the street value of the marijuana is about $90,000.
Both men were taken to the George County regional jail.
