The Molly Ringwalds rock the new Point Cadet Pavilion

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Rain and wet conditions were not enough to kill the music Friday night in Point Cadet. The Molly Ringwalds took the stage at the newly built Point Cadet Pavilion at 7 p.m. and played some of the greatest hits from the 1980s.

The concert was part of White Linen Night. This was the kick-off event for the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra's annual Barbecue Under the Oaks that was held Saturday afternoon in Pass Christian.

White Linen Night was also the first event to be held at the brand new Point Cadet Pavilion. Organizers were happy to have the event under the pavilion to avoid the rainy conditions that plagued the coast for most of the day Friday.

"We were so thrilled that the city offered it to us. It's not supposed to open until May, and they allowed us to have an inaugural event here tonight so that we could be weather protected. After the day that we've experienced on South Mississippi beaches, we were pleased to have it under-roof," said event organizer Melanie Clark.

The pavilion is part of the $4.5 million development taking place at the Point Cadet waterfront park. The park is expected to be finished and open to the public by early May.
