(WMC-TV) - The first fashion show for Memphis Fashion Week kicks off Friday night. It is the third year for the event and it has only gotten bigger with each passing year.

More people are attending the fashion shows and more businesses are looking to partner up for exposure.

"First year is, 'What is Memphis Fashion Week?' The second year is, 'This is kind of cool.' And now it's, 'How do we get involved?'" said Memphis Fashion Week Director Abby Phillips.

"A lot of people see it as this fashion show party, which it is. It's a great show, but what we are getting people to do is shop local," said Phillips.

A fund has even been created to financially help emerging designers create their own designs that will be showcased by models during the shows.

One of the models is a 19-year-old woman from Memphis, who is also gracing the pages of Harpers Bizarre Singapore and Italian Vogue. In addition to modeling, Meg Saunders was picked as an emerging designer.

"I actually dyed all the fabrics in my bathroom in the bathtub at midnight," she said.

The Friday night fashion show will take place at Antebellum Annesdale Mansion. Saturday's show will be at General DeWitt Spain Airport. Both will run from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On WMC Action News 5 at 5 p.m., Lindsey Brown will introduce you to one of the Memphis fashion models who, at the young age of 19, graces the pages of Harper's Bazaar Singapore and Italian Vogue.

Lindsey will be at the fashion show Friday night. Start following her on Twitter (@lindseyrbrown) and Instagram (@lindseyrbrown) for pictures and updates at 7 p.m.
