GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - What's left of the old, hurricane battered Gulfport library building could be coming down sooner rather than later. WLOX News has learned the county is one step closer to bringing in a wrecking ball and tearing down the structure.
Whether that happens is scheduled to be discussed at the Harrison County supervisors meeting on April 7. The county controls the library building on the corner of 20th Avenue and Highway 90.
Before any demolition work can begin, the county had to work with the Mississippi Department of Archives and History to document the building. Pictures had to be taken, a written history had to be recorded and significant mementos had to be preserved. The county attorney received a letter Tuesday confirming the work had been completed.
