Weekend walk to raise funds for hit & run victim

D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) -

Friends of a Florida man are determined to complete a walk he never finished. Back in February, Troy Harrison was walking on Lamey Bridge Road toward his cousin's house. Without warning, the 42-year-old was struck by what D'Iberville police are calling a hit and run driver.

Since the accident, relatives say the Pensacola man's medical insurance was canceled. This Saturday, his friends will return to Lamey Bridge Road and Highway 15 and complete the walk Troy Harrison started. In the process, they hope to raise some money and offset his mounting medical expenses.

"Part of his skull had to be removed, so he has a helmet that he has to wear. The feeding tube. The ostomy bag. He can't walk. He's suffered a stroke on his left side. He can't move any part of that left side," family friend Crysta Joseph explained.

D'Ibervile Police say a teenager was charged with leaving the scene of the accident.
