New multi-million dollar Hilton Garden Inn opens in Pascagoula

PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) -

Pascagoula's first full service hotel is ready for the business. The multi-million dollar Hilton Garden Inn sits on the old site of the La Font Inn near Highway 90.

Business owner Danny Murphy stopped by the hotel to grab a bite to eat. He said the food and facility definitely have lots of flavor.

"This is exceeding the expectations of what I thought it was going to be," Murphy said. "I think it is wonderful, it is nice. It is beautiful. The food is good."

Liz Kessie is the director of sales at the hotel. She said the phones have not stop ringing with people wanting to book one of the 119 spacious rooms, or rent the large ballroom offering 6,000 square feet of flexible meeting space.

"People have been checking in as of Friday afternoon. We had a good weekend. The phones were ringing, we were making reservations, and we are thrilled," said Kessie.

The Hilton already seems to be making a positive impact on the city's revenue stream by creating more than 60 jobs.

"We have created jobs in food and beverage, housekeeping would be a big one, and, of course, the office staff," Kessie said.

Pascagoula's Mayor Jim Blevins said along with good paying jobs, this multi-million dollar investment will bring in more tax dollars and attract new businesses and events to the city.

"For example, Crusin' the Coast is October 5th. So it will be another place for people to stay," Blevins said. "There are some new taxes that will come about, and there is a spinoff of products they will buy in our local city. We are having economic growth in our great city."
