SAUCIER, MS (WLOX) - After a two-hour rain delay, the golfers took aim on the final 18 holes at Fallen Oak. Many of the contenders dropped likes ducks in a row.
Second-round co-leader Fred Funk shot a three over 75, ending play in 18th place with a 5-under 211 total.
Fred Couples was one shot off the pace starting play on Sunday, the 2012 Mississippi Gulf Resort Champion fired an even par 72, placing fifth...four shots behind the winner at 7 under.
Defending champion Michael Allen placed 14th with a three-day total of 211 tied with Funk, Mark O'Meara, Tom Lehman and two others.
Second-round co-leader Billy Andrade remained in the hunt. His approach shot on number 8 hit the green and backed up close to the pin and almost went in. Andrade would birdie the hole and was tied with Jeff Maggert at 10 under through 16 holes.
Andrade would fall off the pace when he had a bogey on 17 and Maggert birdied 17, giving Maggert a 2-shot cushion.
Despite three bogeys, Maggert drilled 7 birdies and shot a 4-under 68 for an 11 under 205 total. The rookie claimed the 240-thousand dollars first-place check winning by two strokes.
Maggert said,"I'm always a little nervous when a tournament starts but this week especially being my first week out. I wanted to play well and have a good tournament. I obviously exceeded my expectations just a little bit in playing so well for three days and coming up a champion."
