PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - A weekend full of family fun has come to an end in Pascagoula as the annual family camp out at Beach Park wrapped up Sunday afternoon.
While there were plenty of activities for people to enjoy, one young man used the camp out to remember a lost friend.
You may remember Devin Cady from his touching speech at Lorel Malone's candle light vigil service.
Lorel was a student at Magnolia Middle School who died after a fight with another student sent him to the hospital.
Devin says he always considered Lorel to be more than a friend. While he was out with his Boy Scout troop at the Pascagoula family camp out, Devin was able to remember his dear friend Lorel with a sand castle.
"The reason I'm making this sand castle is because my friend, Lorel Malone, he recently died and we use to build sand castles all the time," Devin said.
He said this is the type of sand castle he and Lorel use to build together on their trips to the beach.
"It's a pretty awesome sand castle. If you look at it, there's some light houses, towers, even a tunnel," Devin said.
If Lorel were still alive, Devin says he knows he would have loved the sand castle, and they would have made videos to show it off.
"I'm just really sad about Lorel dying, but this is a tribute to him," Devin said.
This is the third spring the Pascagoula Parks and Recreation Department has hosted the weekend family camp out.
