The Moss Point community came together on the Pascagoula beach front Friday night to remember Lorel Malone.
It's been a week since the 12-year-old died after a fight with another seventh grade student at Magnolia Middle School sent him to the hospital.
Lorel's mother, LaKensia Nobles, held a candlelight vigil to honor her son's life.
"I want this to be remembered by everyone knowing that Lorel's mama did this for him because she wanted everybody to remember," Nobles said.
Family and friends wore T-shirts that showed the bright smile that everyone remembers Lorel for. His mother says that is what she loved most about him.
"Yes, always smiling. He has the biggest smile in the world, and even if you didn't know him, even if he looked at you, you'd be like 'oh he's a good kid'," Nobles said.
Lorel's brother, Kiwone, said he will miss his brother always following close behind him.
"My tail. My brother. He stayed behind my back, always said he loved me. We'd fight. Always fighting together, playing around," Kiwone said.
Friends and family at the vigil spoke about Lorel and how carrying on without him will be a tough road.
"We're supposed to be eating crawfish today, but like I said, this hurts for him to be gone like this," Lorel's grandmother said.
Lorel's mother said she has to thank her family and community for giving her the strength to get through this tough time.
"I just want to thank everybody for showing support and love. From the calls, from the texts, from every aspect," Nobles said.
Officer Darius Wilson was at the vigil to show his love and support on behalf of the Moss Point Police Department. He says this is the time when the community needs to unite most and lift each other up.
"This family needs our help. So as a community, it's wonderful that everybody showed up tonight just to show love on this family to help them through this process, for it is a process," Wilson said.
Funeral services for Lorel will be held Saturday at Church on the Rock in Pascagoula. Visitation starts at noon and the funeral will start at 1 p.m.
The church will also continue to raise money to help offset funeral costs for the family. Anyone interested in helping can go to any Merchants and Marine Bank to donate money.
