Krystal Danielle Gonzalez, the woman charged with intentionally setting a devastating fire at Arbor View Apartments, has hired high profile coast defense attorney Michael Crosby to defend her. He says there's much more to the story than what the public has heard so far.

For more than a week, 25-year-old, Krystal Gonzalez has met with police officers, detectives, and ATF agents undergoing countless hours of questioning. It wasn't until she felt the questioning was becoming accusatory that her family sought Crosby to defend her.

"Hiring an attorney was not to imply anything except she has good judgment, as far as her family deciding that she should be protected," said Crosby.

It was a chaotic scene Wednesday as ATF agents swarmed Crosby's office to arrest Gonzalez. She's charged on the state level with one count of arson carrying a sentence of 5-25 years.

Crosby says she's terrified. Gonzalez does not have a criminal record, but according to the affidavit, she admits to setting her boyfriend's clothes on fire in the past. Still, her attorney says there is no evidence to prove she intentionally set this fire.

"We know that it started, according to the police investigation, in the bedroom of their apartment. We know that she was at the apartment complex, and that she did try to put the fire out," said Crosby.

According to Crosby, she had thousands of dollars of clothes and shoes in the apartment. She also had her personal financial savings at the apartment.

"She also lost her two beloved dogs in the fire," said Crosby.

Friends and family say the college student is very driven, soft spoken, and would never mean to hurt anyone.

Gonzalez will be in court Friday for her initial appearance. Her attorney said he will waive his client's preliminary hearing, so the case can go straight to trial.
