BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

An accused drug dealer was arrested after narcotics detectives found heroin and other illegal drugs, as well as stolen handguns in his home. He received additional charges because all of the illegal items were within reach of his two small children.

"Narcotics were easily assessable to the two small minors that were inside the residence at the time the warrant was executed," a deputy with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office noted in the probable cause report.

The search was executed on Thursday, March 6 at roughly 1:40 p.m. When deputies knocked at the front door, the suspect, Deandre Refeal Jenkins, 29, answered and allowed the agents to enter.

"Mr. Jenkins did willingly state, without the presence of a lawyer, that he had marijuana, heroin, and two guns in his possession," the deputy noted. "The weapons were checked by the EBRSO C.I.U Division in which it was confirmed that both of the weapons were stolen."

Along with the stolen guns, agents recovered a baggies of marijuana (5.9 grams), 1 digital scale, 1 baggies of heroin (2.7 grams), 9 dosage units of Xanax in clear plastic baggie, and $200 in U.S. currency.

Jenkins was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute (3 counts), possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm with a controlled dangerous substance, controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a minor, and possession of stolen firearm (2 counts). He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison where he is being held in lieu of a $67,000 bond.

As Ja-Naya Thompson's short life was celebrated, there were a lot of tears and hugs as hundreds of people paid their respects during the visitation and the funeral service.
