The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency recently earned the "storm Ready" designation from the National Weather Service. It's a designation indicating preparedness in a number of areas. For MEMA, it's how well they train, promote public awareness, and have primary and backup systems for receiving and alerting the public of severe weather.
The 2013 Hurricane season was a great one for the Gulf Coast as it was a calm year. We all hope for a repeat in 2014 and years beyond, but let's don't be lulled into a false sense of security.
Review your wind and flood insurance plans now, and as we get closer to the season in June, review all of your emergency plans so you will be storm ready as well.
