BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A 16-year-old is charged as an adult for allegedly shooting a man in the head.

An East Baton Rouge Parish Grand Jury indicted Travon Scott, 16, for attempted second-degree murder. Prosecutors exercised their rights to try Scott as an adult based on the violent nature of the crime and his prior criminal history.

The incident happened in February 2014. Investigators with the Baton Rouge Police Department say Scott grabbed a gun and it discharged, striking the victim in the head. The victim was transported to the hospital and was placed on life-support.

District Attorney Hillar Moore, III explained that the charge could change if the victim dies as a result of his injuries.

Scott was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison during the late evening on Thursday, March 6.
