Community mourns loss of Rankin Co. student

RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

On Tuesday evening, a Rankin County School District student, identified as 17-year-old Olivia Rae Watkins, was killed in a car accident on Thomasville Road in Florence.

The RCSD released this statement to us on Wednesday: 

 "The safety and well-being of everyone involved is our number one priority," said RCSD Superintendent Dr. Lynn Weathersby. "Our hearts and prayers go out to everyone affected in this tragic accident. We are thankful for all of Rankin County's First Responders who responded to the accident."

Counselors will be available for the students and faculty today at McLaurin High School.

    The Long Beach Police Department is looking for suspects who attempted to break into more than a dozen vehicles. Long Beach police say in the early morning hours of Thursday burglars walked away with a variety of stolen items including guns and cell phones.
